Urgent food support for families returning to damaged homes and lives that must restart from zero

200 food parcels for 200 returning families at USD 50 per parcel

As the route north from the southern Gaza Strip opened, thousands of families returned to Gaza City to find damaged homes, depleted markets, and no working sources of income. The return was not the end of the crisis but the beginning of a new phase of need: a household rebuilding its life from nothing, with no food stocks and no purchasing power.

In response, the Gaza Society for Sustainable Agriculture and Friendly Environment (SAFE) distributed food parcels to families returning to Gaza City, through a donation from the Holy Family Church funded by World Central Kitchen (WCK), on 6 February 2025.

The Intervention in Numbers

• 200 food parcels distributed to families returning from the south of the Strip
• 200 beneficiary families in Gaza City
• USD 50 per parcel a total in-kind contribution of USD 10,000

Why Returning Families?

Because the return phase carries a particular vulnerability that humanitarian response often overlooks. A family that had been receiving support in shelters in the south finds itself, on return, outside existing distribution networks in a damaged home, in a market with neither goods nor affordability. A food parcel at that moment bridges the critical gap between returning and regaining any measure of self-sufficiency, and gives the household room to address its other priorities, from repairing the home to restarting a source of income.

SAFE's Role

SAFE delivered the intervention in full, without an implementing partner: identifying returning families against need-based criteria, sourcing materials and assembling the parcels, and organising field distribution in a way that ensured fairness, ease of access, and respect for the dignity of the families served.

Humanitarian Partnership Across Boundaries

This intervention embodies humanitarian solidarity in its purest form: a donation from the Holy Family Church in Gaza, funded by World Central Kitchen (WCK), delivered locally by SAFE  efforts meeting at a single goal, that a returning family should find something to eat on its first day back.

For fifty dollars, a returning family found the support it needed on its hardest days. Solidarity turned into action always begins here.
