Distribution of Fresh Vegetable Food Parcels to Displaced Families in Al-Zawayda
Fresh food for families who lost everything on the journey from north to south
50 fresh vegetable parcels for 50 displaced families at USD 25 per parcel
During the mass displacement from the northern Gaza Strip to the south, thousands of families arrived at shelter areas with no food, no savings, and no source of income. In that period fresh food vegetables in particular was neither easily available nor affordable for displaced families, despite being fundamental to proper nutrition and public health.
In response, the Gaza Society for Sustainable Agriculture and Friendly Environment (SAFE) distributed fresh vegetable food parcels to displaced families in the Al-Zawayda area of the Middle Governorate, supported by ANERA, on 17 April 2024.
The Intervention in Numbers
Why Fresh Vegetables?
Because emergency food baskets rely largely on canned and dry goods, while fresh vegetables remain the hardest to obtain and the most expensive item in displacement-area markets. Providing them means a direct improvement in dietary diversity and a source of the vitamins and fibre that conventional baskets lack which matters doubly for the children, pregnant women, and older people within displaced households.
SAFE's Role
SAFE managed every stage of the intervention: identifying beneficiary families in Al-Zawayda against need-based criteria, sourcing the produce and assembling the parcels, and organising field distribution in a way that ensured fairness, ease of access, and respect for the dignity of the families served.
Partnership Translated into Food
This intervention reflects the value of partnership with international humanitarian organisations: support from ANERA enabled a rapid, targeted response for displaced families at a moment of acute need. It also demonstrates SAFE's ability to deliver small-scale interventions with the same efficiency and discipline it applies to its major projects.
For twenty-five dollars, a displaced family received fresh food it could not otherwise reach. That is what partnership looks like when it becomes action.
