A Recreational Day for Displaced Children in the Al-Saraya Block Camps, Gaza City

Psychosocial support through play because childhood cannot be postponed

120 children given back a day of joy inside displacement camps

In displacement camps, children grow up faster than their years allow. Space narrows, play disappears, and psychological pressure accumulates with no outlet. In conditions like these, recreational activity is not a luxury it is a necessary psychosocial intervention that gives a child a safe space to express, release, and recover something of who they are.

With that in mind, the Gaza Society for Sustainable Agriculture and Friendly Environment (SAFE) organised a recreational activity for displaced children in the camps of the Al-Saraya Block in central Gaza City, in cooperation with the Al-Ihsan Volunteer Campaign, on 6 July 2025.

The Intervention in Numbers

• 120 children among the displaced families living in the Al-Saraya Block camps
• A full day of recreational and activation activities inside the camps
• Entirely in-kind funding, in cooperation with the Al-Ihsan Volunteer Campaign
• Zero operational costs, the full value of the contribution reached the children

Purpose of the Intervention

The activity aimed to provide psychological release and stimulation for children living in displacement camps, through group recreational activities that ease the effects of accumulated stress and restore a child's sense of play, belonging, and safety even if only for a day.

Community Partnership, Direct Impact

The activity was delivered in cooperation with the Al-Ihsan Volunteer Campaign, a model of grassroots volunteer action that complements larger institutional interventions. The in-kind nature of the contribution and the absence of operational costs meant that everything provided reached the children directly — reflecting SAFE's commitment to efficiency and transparency in small interventions as much as in major projects.

One day cannot give children back what they have lost. But it reminds them and us that childhood is a right displacement does not cancel.
