The Association conducted an awareness session on the dangers of war remnants at Saint Porphyrius Church.

SAFE, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme/Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP) and funded by the Government of Norway, conducted an explosive ordnance risk education (EORE) session for children enrolled in the tutoring programme at Saint Porphyrios Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza City. The session was delivered under the “Debris Management in the Gaza Strip” programme.

The session covered safe behaviour around explosive remnants of war, the importance of keeping away from dangerous places, and never approaching any suspicious or unknown object. It aimed at reinforcing safe practices among the children and helping them protect themselves and others from potential hazards, by giving them the information they need to move through their surroundings with caution.

The session took place within the tutoring programme that the church continues to run under the sponsorship of the Shepherd Society. The programme supports children’s learning, giving them the chance to review core subjects, consolidate the concepts they have learned and gain new skills in an encouraging learning environment.

The activity links education with protection, contributing to a safer environment for children and supporting their educational and psychological development under the difficult conditions they are living through.

SAFE’s awareness sessions on the risks of debris and explosive remnants of war continue throughout the project period, targeting families and children in the project areas of Gaza City and North Gaza.
