Distributing infant formula to displaced people as part of the Aid for Gaza Children initiative

In light of the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, SAFE in cooperation with the Peace Humanitarian Organization, launched a humanitarian initiative entitled "Aid for the Children of Gaza," as part of its multi-sectoral emergency response program. The initiative aimed to distribute infant formula to the most vulnerable displaced children in Gaza.

Targeting the Most Vulnerable Children in Displacement Camps

The initiative targeted infants from newborns up to 18 months old in two displacement camps in central Gaza City. This was part of an urgent humanitarian response to the deteriorating food security situation in Gaza, particularly following the near-total closure of crossings and the prevention of humanitarian aid from entering the Strip. This has led to widespread malnutrition and famine among children.

Harsh Living Conditions and Unprecedented Milk Price Hikes

Displaced families in Gaza are suffering from a collapse in purchasing power due to the deteriorating economic situation. Securing infant formula has become a daily challenge beyond the means of most families. The situation is exacerbated by maternal malnutrition, which has led to a decline in breastfeeding rates and an increased reliance on formula, amidst a severe shortage of supplies and a sharp rise in prices.

A Continued Commitment to Protecting and Meeting the Needs of Children

This humanitarian initiative reaffirms the commitment of local and international partners to continue emergency response efforts in Gaza, despite the challenges, to protect children and provide for their basic needs in one of the world's most complex crises.
