Distribution of Mattress and Dignity Kit Packages

Distribution of Mattress and Dignity Kit Packages
Details

SAFE distributed 1,432 mattresses and 1,116 dignity kits to families residing in shelters (RHUs) in the Gaza Strip governorates, as part of a project implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/PAPP) and funded by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, starting on April 15, 2026.

The intervention addresses a recurring gap in the shelter process: families moving into shelters often arrive at a covered space lacking even the most basic necessities for daily living, such as mattresses and personal hygiene items. Providing these two items at the time of moving in is what transforms the shelter from a covered space into a usable dwelling.

The distribution was preceded by a needs assessment and field verification of beneficiary lists, prioritizing female-headed households, large families, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

The association managed all stages of implementation, from needs assessment and beneficiary verification to distribution logistics, while also operating a community feedback and complaints mechanism throughout the project.

The project is part of the association’s ongoing partnership portfolio with the United Nations Development Programme in the areas of shelter, emergency housing and protection.
